Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan, said earlier that Martinez did want to go from Wigan. Wigan's relegation to the Championship Division of the reason the coach chose to go.
"Roberto wants to go. We will take it off but he is still bound kotnrak for 12 months with us so, if he's gone, someone had to pay to go," said Whelan told Sky Sports.
"He was not the right person to lead us back into the Premier League and I have to accept what he feels. Wigan and he loves the fans, but we have to move now and we want the application for the job," he continued.
